And as she walks, she smiles And it’s not for me Draw a stick across the sand And gently float out to sea And if it comes my way then I’ll ride the breeze Driven far beyond your stars, far from your own galaxy And if the truth be known, then it’s the best for me I’m no longer feeling stronger; I haven’t found my place to be Beneath these layers shines a light so bright You know I’d burn your eyes out If I only could Although she spoke so lightly, the words they cut so deeply Leaving a scar that hasn’t set to heal And time can pass so slowly, when you’re feeling lonely So much to give and no one to receive And if the truth be known then it’s my destiny How can someone sink so low? I haven’t found my place to be

Once comfortable in my Bag-End Hobbit hole Never a feather in the wind Up to my door, a Wizard and a swag of dwarves Singing these songs that drew me in To the ‘Green Dragon’ of all places I run to meet these strangers’ faces Wondering who they think I’m s’posed to be We went on in spite of the rain And may your beard grow long and true Somehow we found our way there and back again Oh, but no prize was worth it without you Leaving my home for a mountain far away We were nearly run in by some trolls To Rivendell, the last homely home here in the west How could we bring ourselves to go? To the Misty Mountains – to the Goblin King At Gollum’s hand, I found the ring In the tunnels I thought I’d die for sure But I ran out into the sunshine again And may your beard grow long and true Somehow we found our way there and back again Oh, but no prize was worth it without you Being rescued from the perils in pursuit The Eagles brought us to their homes In the Mirkwood dark, we lost our way And the evils there would have us stay But we refused to have it so We left the forest into the world of men And may your beard grow long and true Somehow we found our way there and back again Oh, but no prize was worth it without you At the Longest Lake, with the Men of Dale This Dwarven King, these men do hail Our goal is near, we feel it so To the Lonely Mountain we look to go Through the Land of Smaug, we make our trails For the good of all, this Dragon must be slain And may your beard grow long and true Somehow we found our way there and back again Oh, but no prize was worth it without you Proud stands the mountain; we brave the Dwarven Door Inform the Dragon he must go Mighty Smaug is slain by the Men of Dale – a fiery death Though their greed sends them to war the throne But the goblins come, evil is sworn The Five Armies, they wage a war Heroes come and heroes fall The good triumph – the quest is done! And we look to journey home It’s good to be in Bag-End again And may your beard grow long and true Somehow we found our way there and back again Oh, but no prize was worth it without you

about

In November of 1998, as the RockLords band 'Cynosure' was in the process of breaking up, out of those ashes rose three musicians ready to take life and beat it about the head with their music. Over two weeks, the band almost spontaneously created this eight-track wonder, fuelled by rage and passion, and unleashed 'The Super 8' on an unsuspecting New Plymouth audience on Saturday the 5th of December. The following January 23-24, the 3-piece of Mark Weir, Kerry Logan and Bobby Logan rocked up to Kaponga's Rowan Studio to record the album in a blistering 3 hours. The Super 8 - Shift's first album - was born.
