Y3K Part Two

Love Wins 05:47
All that I know for sure In the end love will save us all The ebb and flow, the reasoned words The constant search, will bow to love… I know my heart, it bends with breeze How much more so the thoughts that drive us all? No matter how we see the world The Author owns the fate of these It is our wont to box things, itemise We demand that God succumbs to this But, oh, the danger of absolutes There is neither slave nor free All will bow before the Lord!
2.
How many times have we told you to fear the Truth? To reach inside lest your wages overcome you? The night – it waits as it hides What can we say of the way that we see the light? We reach inside and know in our hearts we’re right “The right to live in the Light is mine!” We’ve got the means, got the resources, got the Life We’ve got it all figured out – none to decide Another way cannot be done! These are the days of the battle inside A hundred days longer than a month of Sundays Lord, help me please wage the battle inside What’s on the line is the thought of losing You Into the light, into my mind I break through the edge, consider a life Have I put the Creator into a box? But now I’m haunted by the words that the author said: “I’m just a beggar leading beggars along to the bread” The Truth’s not mine to own!
3.
What do you think? How do you read it? How do you know it? Is it luck? Being born in the right place? Having a pastor that’s better at this? [Salvation?] Which Christ is this? The missionary gets a flat tire? Is it what you say? Who you are? What you do? Who’s your wife? What you ask? What they ask you? And who gets to decide? [Heaven?] Where is there? What will it be like? Will there be dogs there? Does anybody look good in a white robe? Is our eschatology it? [Hell?] Do I believe in a literal Hell? Or a man in tights playing Pink Floyd backwards? Do we really need a serious word – one loaded with violence and hate And all the horror we abide? [God?] How big is God? Is He ‘sort of’ great? Does God get what God wants? Is history tragic? Are we safe? Are we all on our own? [Me?] And what of me? Am I asking enough questions? If I test what I know, what I love, What I think, what I feel, What I know is real – Surely the truth in all survives!
4.
Trepidation 04:45
With sudden panic I recall the dire state of others My trepidation at the reckoning A fear that I keep hidden underneath the surface Under my lazy Christianity For on the day of Sunrise, will I stand all alone? Or can I scrape a meager offering? I feel the pressure building – “I am responsible” Who can I drag next, kicking, screaming? God’s a big boy – He can handle All unbelief, all our scandal When all we know passes away He will gather all, will gather all I am blocked by people moving on, by all the changing weather By that the regular is comforting How can I plead the choices – to activate the hole To always pray to gather kindling? Does God not see panic? Surely I am not alone – There must be others out there struggling! I feel the pressure mounting – who is responsible?! The halls of men could soon be emptying… Wait for a world that cannot be The plan to separate all things Is it what we did? Is all-love hindered? I must trust that in the end I’ll see But – am I free?
5.
2999 02:22
Tonight we’re gonna party like its 2999! We know that in all things we are watching time Asking questions of what it takes to love We like the thought of wings, but we don’t dare to fly… Now, when I come to think of my own design Of the rules I cage around my heart No wonder that I feel something is not right… Hurt! Steel! If I’m to change these things – live the life that I Was made for – to really feel the love On the eve to end all eves, Love Wins tonight! Thirst! Real!
6.
What is your eschatology? In the end you’ll always aim for where you put your eye What is it that you are waiting for? Is death a golden ticket or a punchcard calling time? Choose: are you here or there? What will you do with brevity – Will you help to heal the land or wait for it to die? You are a part of destiny There is a job to do – you must take your place in time Choose: is it here or there?
7.
Breathe: can you feel the changing? The heart on the wind? Run with me to the rising sun! Just let it begin You must believe in the magic – cast your doubt from your skin For only when the Truth arises will you know truth again The light grows around you, the sun it rises, the reset begins Come with me, a new day is dawning; the absence rescind “I am free from the darkness – it can’t hold me within, I am free of the ‘dogma’,” – that’s my revelation!

about

Y2K freaked out everyone as the world thought all the computer systems what 'reset' at the turn of the year 2000. Y3K (apart from being a super-cool name) is a concept album about my own spiritual 'reset', and Part Two is the continuation of that story. In 2013 I came upon the book 'Love Wins' by Rob Bell and devoured it quickly. The concepts in the book, while controversial to some and simple to others, challenged my own understanding of faith and the story that God is telling. I was originally intending Part Two to be a follow up of Part One, but it was quickly rewritten to accomodate this surprising new change in how I saw the world.
