about

The Gypsys are an improvisational band which began in 1993, hamming out Metallica, Nirvana and awful blues numbers. They grew into a more cohesive unit slowly but their journey was recorded and kept for all eternity. Characterised by riffs, thrashing out the same chord sequences, an early inability to finish a song together and often a heavy dose of their own peculiar brand of humour, these 50 or so musicians (once you play with the Gypsys, you're a Gypsy forever) have made music their life. And what a sad life it is...!

This collection is all from the 2nd of January, 2011 session held at Kurt's Shed in Hawera. Mark was back from England and the band utilised the time by organsing a Gypsys jam session which would become their 11th non-gig album, The 1st XI.
