...And She Was Gone [Closure'd]

from Lifer: Greatest Hits by Mark Weir

/

about

This track was almost finished during the Grey Area sessions but was mostly only missing the vocal track. As the final sessions of that album were somewhat haphazzard, Mark and Shane never were in the studio long enough at the same time for Mark to communicate what he wanted so it was never finished. The song, however, features Kezza's only time on an Ovation guitar and Bob being restrained long enough to play something very un-Bob. The song is (I think) about three different women in Mark's life.

This 2015 redo has the vocals finished (with some multi-layer 15-part harmonies!) and some guitar and bass added to flesh out the track.

lyrics

Lady 1
…And she was gone but like fine wine she stayed
Mature in the mind, a vintage for days
…And she was gone but I never ever knew her
Which is lucky I guess, so maybe less is best
…And she was gone – the moment I turned my head
My universe halved, my dreams left un fed
…And she is well, candle in her eye
Angel in her face, admirer in her sky
…And she was gone

Lady 2
…And she was gone off to a distant land
Yet in my mind her and I stand
Upon the shore of what could be
Her footprints lead towards the sea
Inland I go trying to think twice
I palm my face and roll the dice
And there she is standing there for me
I turn away, turn back and see
…And she was gone

Lady 3
…And she was gone – is love like this?
Forever chasing only to miss
Can’t seize the moment, grab the day
My indecision paves my way
If I could change one single day
It would be when you first came my way
Background no more, barriers aside
I’d close my eyes and you’d be mine
…And I’d be gone…
