Here is the New There

from Y3K Part Two by Kerry Logan

/

about

The Y3K album is a conceptual piece about my 'spiritual reset' and Part Two occurred when I read the book 'Love Wins' by Rob Bell. A section within the book that I found most mind blowing was the chapters that deal with eschatology: our thoughts about what happens at the end. Changing my thinking of heaven being a vague and mysterious 'there' to a important and present 'here' was a significant shift in my thinking. With this new understanding, I find myself pouring more into the now.

This riff - initially called 'fart' because someone casually mentioned that the demo recording I made sounding like it had a fart in it (which it didn't) - dovetailed in nicely to the 2999 one, making them fit so nicely together. That, however, created problems in that I then had to make the melody lines separate, which for the longest time I had trouble doing. It wasn't until the weeks leading up to the album release that I was able to create the new melody line and finally finish the song.

lyrics

What is your eschatology?
In the end you’ll always aim for where you put your eye
What is it that you are waiting for?
Is death a golden ticket or a punchcard calling time?
Choose: are you here or there?

What will you do with brevity –
Will you help to heal the land or wait for it to die?
You are a part of destiny
There is a job to do – you must take your place in time
Choose: is it here or there?
