Monopoly of Truth

from Y3K Part Two by Kerry Logan

/

about

The Y3K album is a conceptual piece about my 'spiritual reset' and Part Two occurred when I read the book 'Love Wins' by Rob Bell. I set out to try highlight my own lack prior to this new reset, in that I - like so many - could not help but feel some kind of privilege and superiority in my spiritual position, a truly unjustified state. Christians, we must surely see, cannot hold the monopoly on truth.

Like most of the songs on this album, the core riffs to the songs came during a spate of inspiration in 2006 where I tended to quickly record riffs as they came to me. This riff was one such creation, the whole song effectively being shaped by the chorus melody, one of my favourite on the album.

lyrics

How many times have we told you to fear the Truth?
To reach inside lest your wages overcome you?
The night – it waits as it hides

What can we say of the way that we see the light?
We reach inside and know in our hearts we’re right
“The right to live in the Light is mine!”

We’ve got the means, got the resources, got the Life
We’ve got it all figured out – none to decide
Another way cannot be done!

These are the days of the battle inside
A hundred days longer than a month of Sundays
Lord, help me please wage the battle inside
What’s on the line is the thought of losing You

Into the light, into my mind
I break through the edge, consider a life
Have I put the Creator into a box?

But now I’m haunted by the words that the author said:
“I’m just a beggar leading beggars along to the bread”
The Truth’s not mine to own!
