City of the Seven Hills

from Closure by Cynosure

/

about

After the first Cynosure album was released, the band began working on new material. One of the earliest of these new songs was this track, first known as "My Hungarian Friend" named incorrectly after the Hungarian scale (the song instead uses an Arabic scale). Mark brought this track to the group and the four piece (having just added bassist Julian) began learning and perfecting it. When the recording for the second album began, this was one of the first tracks to be completed. The song is named after Istanbul, the city with seven hills.

The 2015 redo was simply to be a remaster of the original, but at the last moment, a call was made to Mark to see if he would be able to record the piano intro and outro to the song that had previously only been played live. He agreed and this track was the final one completed for the album.
