Y3K: The Beginning

by Kerry Logan

Yellows and Reds, the evening comes in shadow Sitting in bed, I wait, I know that she's coming Thoughts through my head are pulled from toys on the shelving Now awakened - the mark of all that follows Christian Living - the baseline of my future Hymnal signing - musicality in love What is right?! What is wrong?! Where do these things come from?! Time moves slow - if at all Surrounded by all this love I can feel it in my bones I know there's something big for me I have no hands but Yours I am destined for the Deep The act of church bores me But, the unspoken words enthral I kneel and offer Constructed thoughts to the God above I can feel it in my bones I know there's something big for me I have no hands but Yours I am destined! I can feel it in my bones I know there's something big for me All that I know for sure Love will save us all Will save us all

Sitting beside the stage while the band plays on They danced the whole night though Knight Rider Friday nights, beach chocolate feels 4am drives off to Do you know what you got? How safe it feels? You'll never know until Maybe some sweet day you'll know enough to say There is no place like home Whitianga, Urenui, Tamahere too Not where or what, it's who Distinctive movements in the shape of my soul These are my offerings to the God of it all I would not be me if I hadn't this world

Storytime 03:49
Let me tell you a story… I am blessed to possess the best friends on the earth I should really tell them all just what they are worth Living the Three Elements, a life full of mirth Dented at the first school - my dear friends were few Dragged into the second, reinvented anew Now I feel alive and now I know what to do My Friday's and my weekends have gone to my head And all my Sunday morning's are spent tucked up in bed! "You're holding onto nothing and I swear that you love it You're holding onto nothing and I swear that you love it Direction that you're heading gets as hot as an oven Just take a hold of something and embrace all the lovin'” Invited to the Hornets, to a basketball game With my faith-filled friends, the ones that know me by name This is way before Vision, what the Prez became Talking to an Allstar, and he asks of my faith The question kinda threw me, but not so my mate He launches into story, my shock wasn't fake Then they turn upon me and I'm forced to decide If I can just decipher what is clouding my mind!
4.
All I want is the ending of the world May 5, Mayan, Michele de Nostradam, the Revelation Astral travel - existence of my soul I hunger for the world beyond this world - to see the Hand of God! If I could just glimpse a part And heed the cry of my heart And I stood upon the sand of the sea I saw a beast rise up over me - it had seven heads! Upon ten horns it bore heavy crowns On its heads the name of blasphemy - how metal is that?! A room of souls held as one Revealed the Revelation
5.
Something is stirring in my soul Somehow it wants to take control - I will fight Is this the end of the whole world? Maybe it’s borne out of the hole I found hidden in my heart Who do you say I am? And what change will you make to your soul? The work You started long ago How it infiltrates my soul throughout time He asks me questions of the world But all I hear is that bold one You have placed within my heart Who do you say I am? And what change will you make to your soul? I feel vibrations in my soul! Like someone’s shaking the whole world! Make it stop! I will not survive this at all! But, I must beat the fearful hold that resides within my heart! Who do you say I am? And what change will you make to your soul?
6.
Out through the horror that has taken me here I prayed to get out on this floor The Mann before me beams from ear to ear My soul it echoes that and more When I’m done Where will it take me? An asylum…? Now that I’m super can I move all things With just the power of my thoughts? A feel a new blood coursing through these veins Now I see maxi big da force When I’m done Where will it take me? My own island…?
7.
See how all bends into the light How all darkness is made light... See how my all is brought into the light How my wrongs are put to right... For as high as the heavens Are above all the earth So great His love for all Far as east is from the west Our sins are removed from us Now I end my wandering in the night I end the grip of death tonight… Now I fall up into the light My wrongs are made up into rights…

about

Y2K freaked out everyone as the world thought all the computer systems what 'reset' at the turn of the year 2000. Y3K (apart from being a super-cool name) is a concept album about my own spiritual 'reset', and this album is the 'prequel' to my other two previous Y3K offerings, 'Part One' which dealt with my grappling with the concept of sin through the vehicle of the Book of Romans, and 'Part Two' focusing on the challenges I faced after reading Rob Bell's 'Love Wins'.

In 2017, during my first year teaching Religious Studies at St Bernard's College in Lower Hutt, I was away on a spiritual retreat and I began to think about the origins of my faith - where it came from and how I journeyed through it to arrive at where I was now. Having just completed the two parts of the Y3K series, I determined that there was more of my story to tell - the story of the 'reset' that started it all.

The album also features a number of quotes from CBS's 1979 animated 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe', a cartoon version of C.S. Lewis' classic tale. When I listen to the quotes from it, I remember seeing the movie and how it made me feel. So much of it is in tune with this album.

This then is that journey. Enjoy!
