Do I Have To Say Goodbye?

about

Many years ago, back in 1993, I teamed up with my good friend Justin Williams to write some music to his lyrics. Sadly, I was very early into my writing and didn't really understand that there was more than one way (my way!) to write songs so, consequently, all his pop-imagined lyrics got turned into dark, heavy rock-inspired tracks. (Sorry, Justin!)

Anyhoo, this is the last of the Justin-collaborations that I worked on him with, the rest now appearing in other forms on other albums. When I showed this to the band, it took a while to gel. Even when we went to record it on our final night together, it took several takes to really get it right, the last take a stand out from the others.

lyrics

Now it’s time to move on
But, before we say so long
Let us reflect back
To the days when we took the flack

On the town at nights
Hell, did we have some fights?
And the girls under those lights
Boy, was that a sight!

So, do I have to say goodbye?
Could this just be a lie?
What a life this has been
With some of the things we have seen
So, do I have to say goodbye…?

Now on we move
Our separate ways
With nothing left to say
Maybe for that we will pay

And return we will all one day
And then we’ll have plenty to say
Maybe all heading the same way
This could happen some day
