Drown

about

This Shocker-track was a late addition to the Grey Area album (having been introduced to the band after a gig with an acoustic rendition by Shane), but quickly became a band favourite. It was recorded in parts over the half-year in the studio and even made a rare live appearance in the band's final performance in January 1998. The track features my first real attempt at writing a multitrack guitar solo - which I think worked out pretty well.

The 2015 redo has had little done to it, save the addition of a few guitar tracks to help flesh out the sound.

lyrics

Sunburnt and blistered
Hung out to dry
Withered and pale like the old horse
That's left to die
Cracks in my river bed
Dust in my well
Flies gather up just to worship
Lord of this smell

And down is for me the way to go
Under the ground that buried me
Something will grow

Come and drink from my water
Come and swim in my lake
Come and sit on this black sand shore
Cause you're left to blame
Come and drown in my water
Come and drown in my lake
One breath before you go under
Last breath you take

And now it seems to be some kind of revenge
And it looks as if this ghost has found its end
And into this watery grave I will lay
And its in your nature to have your part to play

Come and drown with me
I'll be your friend
This is your end
Show you my friend
Shall not pretend

And I won't wallow in your selfish nature
Hesitate to show I hate you
Hold you up for all to see
Reflecting what you did to me
Taste the sand within your mouth
Feel the current pull you down
Claw the surface for a breath
How much water can you tread?
And don't wait for this
Can't escape from this
You can't resist
My black abyss
And to this watery grave I will lay

Peeling back the blisters
Just like holding back the years
Water on the alter
Ain't enough to shed these tears
Roses on my grave
Won't be enough to save
Drown my foolish pride
In the well so dusty
