Falling Back Again

from First by Kerry Logan

about

In the Big Bad Sad Boys era of 1991, this was one of two songs that the band wrote although this one never quite made it into a finished version. It was based on some chords that I wrote and some sketchy lyrics that myself, Simon and Bevan scratched one night. Very little of that song survived but I decided to take the fragments and honour that crazy time by finally finishing the track. To further highlight the era it came from, I borrowed (still without permission!) a verse (lyrics and music) from a song that Simon wrote and played for me in 1990, a track he called O.N.E. The end result worked out quite well and the Zeppelin-esque feel is one that the 90's version of me would have approved. Recorded in the shed on the Ridgeway with the ol' 4-track!

lyrics

I never said I wanted you, baby
I never ever meant to put you down
I always thought you (were) my kind of lady
You always seemed to lift me off the ground

My attitude in us was so crazy
I guess I thought that we were guaranteed
I should left some solitude waiting
How many time did I not hear you plead?

When I look back at what I had been
My embarrassment comes flooding to me
No wonder you needed room to breathe
I wish that I could have that time again

Now it is gone it is so amazing
The speed of a fool is a speed indeed
Can you understand, for you I was crazy
Too quick I let a want become a need

I realise how much a heart can bleed
When I think about what she said to me
No matter how I try and quench the need
I keep falling back again

(O.N.E.)
I found you, that’s all I need
To live day by day
I’m gonna keep you like a seed
And keep you company
