Fly

from First by Kerry Logan

about

In February 1995, Baz, Bob and myself were having our own Gypsys jam session when we happened on the chords and riffs that would eventually become this song. We joked about the trilling intro, how it sounded like a pesky fly, and later when words were added, I penned them to suit this idea. The song was fully fleshed out on the road to Auckland to see Primus in early '96 - hence the sound of the song! This 1996 recording was responsible for bringing Mark into the band full time!

lyrics

Saturday afternoon, no peaceful picnics today folks
Traditional missile hurled at one of the fleet
It’s nothing personal – we’ve just gotta get on with the job
We gotta do what we do best

Did I piss you off?
Are you aware of the buzz?
Doesn’t it make you mad?
Wish you could fly like us?
And in a minute
When you think I’ve gone away
I’ll be right here…

We’ve got our troubles – being spider-meat is bad enough
We don’t need you to jump on the bandwagon too
Two-legged creatures, you make me sick! Two eyes?! And you’ve got no wings?!
You look disgusting – Buzz! Buzz! Take that you fool!

Fly! Do you have purpose at all?!
Constant buzz drives me insane
No six-leg(ged) **** will break me
Ah! Shut up, you Fly, shut up!!

Black Flag…
