How Short? [Bonus Track]

from STRGPXI+KL by STRGPXI

about

By recording every practice, there was no end to the amount of material we had for the album and its bonus tracks. That included having multiple takes of some of the feature songs on the album, including this earlier take of How Long. The revised title is explained at the end of the track.

[I've since done some study and found out that this track is similar to 2001's The Middle by Jimmy Eats World, so I must have soaked it in without realising it. While the chords and the choruses are different enough, the phrasing and the structure is pretty close. Dang!]

lyrics

“How long have you been in love?”
I have to ask myself in this lull
I wonder – when will it be enough?
When will you entertain the thought of never needing anyone?

You – look what you’ve gone and done
Tramping from pillar to post so that you’re not alone
Not healthy – no, it’s not even close
Heart broke too many times without (any) rest just will not work

I tried to ascertain
What it’s about – I scream and shout!
If I learn anything, it’s that I’ll never learn…

And now, now that you’re out of love
What form of discipline will you employ?
I wonder, have you considered above?
You need to stop and think and let your Dad take care of it all

The tale doesn’t stop right there
As it turns out, it all works out!
I wear ‘the One ring to rule them all’!
