about

This Mark-penned track began life as a demo called "B-Jazz" (as it was in the key of B) and grew into a full track (in the key of A, this time) after the first Cynosure album. It still wasn't fully fleshed out by the time the band hit the studio and, as a result, was only partly finished, sans vocals and most of the guitars. It was later finished by the Shift boys and changed into the key of E as part of their live set and Shift of a Demo album. The track was written (I think) about a friend of Mark's who died far too young.

This 2015 redo has the vocals added and the guitars finished in an attempt to recreate what the song could have sounded like if the Grey Area had actually been finished.

lyrics

I don’t seem to realise why
Living my life like you won’t die
Tomorrow comes too easily
And I don’t wanna feel like
I could lose you

Scared to be around
What threatens to leave at any second
Blink – don’t close your eyes
Don’t let Him touch you!
Don’t let Him hold!
You’ll take with you a failed part of me

All the time to promise to try
Living myself – a selfish lie
Maybe I’ll come another day
And I don’t wanna feel like
I don’t know you

Life was always easy with you ushered at my side
But now it seems uncertain, I’ve got nothing else to hide
Forced to make decisions, I can’t make them on my own
The dying light engulfs you as your spirit returns home

Try to make up for lost time
Now it’s too late, sever the line
How quickly you were snatched away
And I don’t wanna feel like
My whole life is passing by
Just enough time to say
I will miss you
