Looking Inward, Inward Looking

from Y3K Part One by Kerry Logan

/

about

The Y3K album is a conceptual piece about my 'spiritual reset' that occurred when I rediscovered the book of Romans through new eyes. After considering how I could personally deal with the issue of sin, I discover that I cannot and, worse still, that my navel-gazing has only caused me to miss out on what God has for me. I must look upward and look out.

The song contains a couple of pieces that came from my memory of watching TV jingles many years ago. I later rediscovered one - Dave Brubeck's "Unsquare Dance" - and, along with the other mysterious track, wrote them into this piece. However, the song is all mine, and those borrow sequences are swallowed up by the piece. This is the longest song on the album at 6 minutes, far longer that the majority of the 2-3 minute tracks.

lyrics

Wait… I’m looking in the wrong place
Bait is taking me the wrong way
I’m trying to find an answer where there is none
Maybe that is the answer anyway

Hey – I’ve focused in the wrong place
I’ve been looking in instead of looking every way
Preoccupied within myself
It’s easy to stop thinking of you when I’m thinking of nothing else

“Look upward and look out!
I thought you would have worked it out
Eyes up and you’ll turn about
That’s what this is all about”

Fate – I’m always gonna get it wrong
But, dwelling on it will keep me down there far too long
A cunning plan – Satan is a poo-poo-head
For trying to break me down for doing God’s thing

I’ve been focused on the negative
Being pulled down by my own initiative
Leave it to itself
Accentuate the positive!
