Plea

about

Somewhere in 1997, I got a bunch of chords and a rhythm in my head which ended up being the chorus to this song, although that was as far as this piece went for some time. Come 2001, however, while on tour with the Rumble, I started messing around with it again, adding more chords and trying to give it structure. The result musically is what you hear now. Lyrically, it's about a friend who was flirting with the idea of Christianity but reluctant to dive in. I'm not wildly happy with the lyrics now as I believe it's perhaps God is bigger than that (that is a whole other song/album!), but it flows well and became a Shift favourite in their later years.

lyrics

You’re going nowhere
I believe you know this is true
And I am honestly worried
That the end will surpass you before you can choose

There is nothing wrong with dancing ‘til four in the morning
Or having good times – they’re good times in the end
But believe me when I say (that) I see you are falling…

Please! Please!!
Would I say this if I didn’t care?
‘Cos the only thing you’ll find at a dead end is a dead end

There are those of us who care deep about you
And would so love to see you come through
But it is on your door He’s knocking
We can only tell you how much He wants you

“Those who seek Him at the eleventh hour
Will die at 10:30 instead”
Take my advice and take my advice…

Please! Please!!
Would I say this if I just didn’t care?
