The Princess/The End Comes

from Decimation by Kerry Logan

about

This song began it's life in two different times; first in the late 90s as a chorus (the chorus is as it was originally written) and again in 2000 when the songs was pretty much fully fleshed out, although with different lyrics. When WWB came knocking, a rewrite of the two verses was easy and since the original song only had a very weak bridge and end, I was album to reconstruct a new tail to run it into the powerful "The End Comes"

The recording of this happened at the same time as "The Castle". It must have been a magical day I regard that song and this as my two favourites on the album. Add to this, the second verse and chorus of The Princess is my favourite moment of my musical career. Ever.

The second half of the track was taken from a piece I wrote in 1998 called "Debab" (which will hopefully see the light of day in the future!) but was modified to a) be a strong conclusion to the album and b) provide the second major musical theme throughout. The D-Eb-Ab chorus structure is almost my favourite that I've written! and I had to use it in WWB.

Since I was grouping it with "The Princess", I didn't have to do too much to the song, rather I ended up cutting it's bridge and shortening it so it could work in with the album.

lyrics

I – I’m delighted by the knowledge
My recollection is correct
And I – although it is I who failed you
There’s redemption in it yet
She – she is speaking ever softly
Could her words be ever bad?
And she knew it all from the beginning
My eyes were closed to that…

I can feel you against me
Can feel you giving me
A feeling that makes me
Want feeling next to me

I – I’ve just had a ghastly feeling
Am I riding to my doom?
And I – I’m unsure of how to save us
But I must go and save us soon
She – softly spoken arrow sending
Did I survive another sweet?
And she is not to blame for being an angel…

I can feel you against me
Can feel you giving me
A feeling that makes me
Want feeling next to me

My words are poison in the air
I walk towards the gate of them
I’m off to close an opened door
Oh – that I’d not opened it before
It’s not a place for love to move
Why did I send for all this proof?
What must I do to have it die?
…And keep it sweet…?

To know all that has been
I know we have agreed
I walked into the week
Aware of every dream

Why can’t I have all that I’ve dreamed?
I must believe that God has seen
Forgive the death of what we’ve been…
…Just call my name…!

To save all that must be
I beg that we agree
The end – end of the week
I have done what I dreamed…
