Tomorrow's World

about

In 1993, my good friend Justin Williams was trying his had at songwriting. He offered me an album's worth of lyrics and asked if I could flesh out some music. I was perhaps too single-minded in those days so I could only offer him classic rock in return, but this track sat buried for five years until it was shown to Cynosure in mid-1997, around the time that they were preparing to go into Avalanche Audio. The music was recorded and then I gave Shane Justin's lyrics and asked him to have a look at them, making them fit to his style, and shaping them more around Jesus' invitation (my reading of the original lyrics). This then is the result.

lyrics

Wanna wake up to a brand new day?
Wanna live the dreams your mind creates?
Another place in time
Serenity is what you’ll find
Harmony moulds your soul to shape

You bump and grind and bustle, breaking your will you fade away

This world full of hate
It’s delusion and its waste
Come and flee from its sun
Before it burns you

So make journeys forward
So take flight to air
Take your sadness and your grief
Throw them to the ground beneath
Soul and mind as one
In tomorrow’s world

Come into my world, shed your skin
Reborn, you let your body sing
Former life pushed away
No worries everyday
Embrace the Spirit from within

Mother earth is crying out – you hear her children shout

So don’t stay there
Come join us here
Feel the system from within
Spread your roots, let it begin

You’ve got to feel it now
Your inner soul pushed out
Your dreams before your eyes
Behind you all those lies
