Who Do You Say I Am?

from Y3K: The Beginning by Kerry Logan

about

The "Y3K: The Beginning" album is a conceptual piece about my 'spiritual reset', a prequel of parts one (2014) and two (2016) that tells of the beginning of my faith journey. My father passed away in December of 1995 and, while I was struggling with the loss, I was surrounded by my friends in that time. One of my friends who I spent a great deal of time with then was my friend Dave Mann who allowed me to grieve and to ask big questions, before he was able to challenge me as to what my journey was all about. This song is the story of that challenge and the results of it.

Originally, I found an old riff that I thought would make do as a short track for the album, but as this song grew, I became to rely on it so much more. This track is now a key part of the album, and a turning point for my spiritual journey.

I should also mention that the late addition of the quotes from 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' into this song have done something profound with that track, at least to me. When Lucy says that she is glad to have Edmund back, I feel like that is what God says to me after my wanderings away from him. It is a poignant moment that I shall probably never hear any other way.

lyrics

Something is stirring in my soul
Somehow it wants to take control - I will fight
Is this the end of the whole world?
Maybe it’s borne out of the hole I found hidden in my heart

Who do you say I am?
And what change will you make to your soul?

The work You started long ago
How it infiltrates my soul throughout time
He asks me questions of the world
But all I hear is that bold one You have placed within my heart

Who do you say I am?
And what change will you make to your soul?

I feel vibrations in my soul!
Like someone’s shaking the whole world! Make it stop!
I will not survive this at all!
But, I must beat the fearful hold that resides within my heart!

Who do you say I am?
And what change will you make to your soul?
